Since 1991, Luxembourg requires that the European Firearms Pass of a European resident outside Luxembourg, wishing to practice sport shooting in Luxembourg, must be authorised by the Service des Armes et Gardiennage from Luxembourg's Ministry of Justice.
This authorisation is in the form of a stamp affixed to the European Firearms Pass and is valid for 1 year from the date of validation (therefore renewable each year).
To obtain this authorisation, there are two ways to proceed:
- by going during opening hours to the counter of the Service des Armes et Gardiennage at the Ministry of Justice in order to obtain authorisation on site immediately
- by sending the European Firearms Pass, preferably by registered letter to the Service des Armes et Gardiennage requesting said authorisation - after processing the document is returned to the applicant (this generally takes a week - depending on the postal services concerned ).

Outside the opening hours of the counter, the service is provided and requests for information are handled by e-mail or by telephone.

Note that if during a check of the papers by the competent authorities, it turns out that your European Firearms Pass does not include an authorisation for Luxembourg, the authorities are authorised to seize the weapons on the spot.
